The Cantiniere Farmhouse is located just 5 km from the Saturnia Thermal Baths, which, with their unique sulphurous water at 37.5°C, offer an unforgettable bath suitable for all seasons. Legend has it that it was born from the thunder thrown to the earth by the god Saturn. The myth tells that Saturn one day became angry with men, constantly at war with each other, took a lightning bolt and threw it to the earth, causing sulphurous and warm water to gush from the crater of a volcano, enveloping and calming everything. From that welcoming womb, wiser and happier men were born. The setting of the legend was the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, Saturnia, where water gushes at a speed of 800 liters per second at a temperature of 37°. During the Middle Ages, the Maremma land suffered numerous attacks from Orvieto and Siena. Despite the local feudal lords having built defensive strongholds, the Maremma was conquered and for many centuries, no one cared to continue the reclamation works started by the Etruscans and Romans. Only in 1828 did Duke Leopold II start new drainage works. The Maremma repopulated and its inhabitants were provided with adequate healthcare. Today, many tourists spend their holidays in the Tuscan Maremma. Welcoming them is the most beautiful countryside, the evocative Etruscan and Roman remains, and the splendor of medieval castles.
